e-mail attachments won't open after upgrading

After carrying out a windows upgrade from Microsofts site, I suddenly find that when e-mails arrive, any attachments are listed under the paper clip, but greyed out. When clicking on an attachment, the PC tends to freeze and the attachment doesn't open. I have to ctrl + alt + delete to exit Outlook Express. I am using Outlook Express 6 with service pack 1 and all the updated downloads installed. I have checked the active X settings but they have not changed. Anybody any ideas please?

In tools in outlook express go to options then security uncheck the box, do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus

Many thanks - worked a treat. Now able to open my e-mail attachments. All this happened after latest upgrades from Microsoft - bloody great eh?
Once again, thanks.
