E-drive stops desktop videos

I have a number of Quick-Time .movies in a folder on my desktop. When I try to access these, a dialogue box pops up requesting that I insert a disc in drive 'E'. It is only when I insert a disc in the drive, then cancel it, that I can access and play the videos!
We do get some amusing scenarios, don't we!
I am using Windows XP Home.
Anyone else had and solved this problem?

This problem has solved itself!
After switching off ( not re-starting )and booting up again, the problem went away!
Still would like to know what it was!
