I am looking at replacing my VCR (which is a Toshiba V-703B and has broken down but can be repaired for £80) with a DVD recorder. Is it worth considering a DVDR, and do you have any recommendations in, say, the £200/400 range? Is it too early to buy DVDR, and what is the best format? I presently have Sky+ which I have been very impressed with, so the DVDR would mainly be for archival recordings from the Sky+. At the moment I favour the Phillips DVDR75.

You might try a look here. Have the region 2 model works very well. Record from Sky with no problem on to DVD-R and RAM. Very versatile piece of kit with good spec.

Also the DVDR75 gets a good write up here.
