Windows Xp sp3; My D drive has a fault. It keeps popping the CD drawer in and out. I tried moving the connections at the back of the PC but no change. I have no idea how to stop this, and it is so anoying.

I know it is not an answer as to why this happens but I did find that a workaround was to stick a blank CD in the drive and leave it there.

.... or you could just disable the drive under Disk Management and re-enable as and when you need to use it.

The problem is that it pops in and out also while it is with a disk playing or an empty disk.

Fruit Bat.... I am afraid it is too complicated for me. I disabled it from the Divise Manager but it still keeps doing it but less frerquent.
