Have you done any work inside you PC? If so check all connections to drives are connected fully. I had same problem after putting in secondary drive and found my primary drive stopped working caused by loose connection.

Anything further would be too 'Tech'y' for me, hope this helps.

Put a CD in the drive and close it

Do you hear it spin up?

Go into Windows explorer and see whether the drive is being recognised if not theres your problem and you will need to check the physical connections and the jumper settings on the back of the drive or even that it is enabled in BIOS.

If it is being recognised double click it to see if it reads your CD

Post back if you want more help

No CD/DVD or CD-ROM access is missing error Code 19, Code 31, Code 32, Code 39, or Code 41

or

Try this if the optical drives are not appearing in My Computer or Device Manager.

Run regedit and navigate to registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
Highlight it and in the right pane, find the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values.
Highlight each one in turn, right click and delete them.
Close regedit and restart the computer.
If in doubt make a restore point before making changes.
