I have recently purchased and fitted a DVD Writer (Lite-On SOHW 1213S)which is supposed to write dvd at 12x and cd's at 48x.But it is taking me approx 10 mins. to write a cd,and 50mins to write 4gb on a dvd.Reading several threads people are saying they can write a dvd in approx 15mins and a cd in 2-3 mins.My old cd writer used to back up my Quicken account to a cdrw in approx;3secs but now in takes about 30secs.Do you think I have a faulty DVD Writer?

(1) what are rated burning speed of blank DVD+-Rs and CD-Rs (DVD+-RW and CD-RW will be normally slower)

(2) burning a large number of small files will normally take much longer than small number of large files.

(3) correct setting of burning software? For example, do you set it to verify discs after burning?

I am using Datawrite Yellow DVD+R 8x and the CD is a Traxdata CD-RW 4x.I am using Nero (fully updated)and I do not set it to verify discs after burning.Do you think the time it takes is excessive or is it just me expecting too much.

Experiencing exactly the same problem with the 1213s. I am very diappointed with its performance.

4gb to take 50 minutes is too long

Is it connected as master on the secondary or is it connected as slave with the hdd.
