I am thinking of getting a DVD burner to store some home videos on and have seen some with ATA/ATAPI and oters with internal IDE. What do these mean. Insise my PC (almost 2 years old) the harf disc, CD RW and DVD ROM are connected by wide ribbon cables. I guess i plug the DVD wruter I get into the cable, but will it be the right interface?

You are correct in your guess.

ATAPI and IDE are he same.

Do make sure that you set the jumpers on the drives for master - slave correctly.

If your DVD writer is dual purpose and writes CDR as well, you will be able to dispense with your CDRW.

If you go ahead post back reference connecting to which cable.
