I was given a Sony DVD writer (OEM) to day, which I have installed, and which has been found and installed by Win98.
It seems to write alright, but won,t play back.

Do I need a Software programme in order to play DVD's

Yes, WINXP has some native support for playing back DVD, WIN98SE supposedly has via media player but is never seems to work.

PowerDVD is one of the best, but I believe that a search on the net may well find a free player, having always used PowerDVD I am not aware of any.
