DVD Super-Multi Drive?

  Daibus 21:10 19 Jan 06

I am looking at the Samsung X20 Notebook but the DVD Drive is classed as a Super-Multi DL and not a fixed Optical I think - what does this mean and is this an inferior sort of Drive?

what make is the dvd drive?

  Daibus 21:25 19 Jan 06

I can't unfortunately find the actual name of the manufacturer so what would be the general opinion?

Many thanks.

the dl stands for dual layer and the multi means it can handle all the different formats, the reason I asked the make is to obtain specific info for your particular drive.

Think the drive is a factory option and is integrated into the notebook and not added later, or is it removeable.
Seems to be able to burn all the usual formats including dual layer, do not appear to quote speeds, but should be able to find it somewhere.

There are a range of X20 models, can you advise of selected unit.

Specs can be found here, does not mention dual layer writing.

Thanks very much for your replies and Biotech - I list the main specifications of the X20 that I'm interested in - hope it will makes things clearer.

Samsung X20 1.60 GHz Centrino Pentium M 730 Laptop
Windows XP Home - 60 GB hard drive - 512 MB RAM - DVD-SMulti drive - 15in screen size - Average battery life 6 Hrs

Many thanks.

specs shown are a year old Doh!try to find some newer .

From searching I think a Super Multi Drive may well burn all current formats including DVD-RAM, may be limited to +R Dual layer but cannot really tell. Think it is slimmer due to the integration.

Many thanks again but quite taken with the Samsung and this version of the X20 is the only one available here in Spain but many cheers to you and will let you know how I get on.
