DVD -/+ RW - external USB 2.0 is expensive ...

... but what if I got a much much cheaper internal one, and placed it in a USB 2.0 caddy, and used it as an "external"? Would that work? I am not too bothered about the speed, as I can burn DVDs and use DVD discs as backup - my 30Gb drive on my laptop is getting a tad full!

What about a external hard drive if its for backup/extra capacity? You can get a 120gb for just over £100.
