Why do you need to format the disk in the first place?

But in earlier systems RW disks need special software called 'Packet Writing'
Such as Nero
or my favourite

Hi, I need to format the disk because im trying to back up my files and before the back up process begins the message format disk appears and I have no choice.

Well, for some strange reason it has decided to work, perhaps it was a couple of dodgy disks, who knows, thanks for your help though.

Not a good idea to use dvd rw as a backup storage, they are not reliable. Better to use -r or an external drive.

You are thinking of InCD in the case of Nero.

Unless anyone is going to use an RW disk like a hard drive, there is no need to format disks - they will burn and allow erasing as required.

In fact, when I first go a CD rewriter seven or eight years ago, I experimented with how to use it with a (then) expensive TDK CD-RW disk...:-)
