DVD ROM not rcognising written DVD's

  Boy Zone 16:48 13 Jan 06

Hi to you all,

I have just installed a new LG GDR 8164B DVD ROM, old one packed up.
Now the new Rom will not recognise any DVD's that I have burnt (media is verbatim) yet will play on the DVD writer.
I have checked the LG web site, to see if there is any firmware updates but can't see any for this ROM. I have uninstalled the ROM drive and re-installed but still no luck.
I know the DVD is region 2, but don't think this will have any impact on not recognising the DVD's
PS Will play pre-recorded DVD's, i.e. commercially recorded.

DVD players can be very "picky" about the media they will burn to/play (ususally down to the die used on the disc).

The reflectivity of the disc is important.Burnt DVDs & CDs have a much lower reflectivity than the pre-recrde ones as they are stamped out not burnt.

Thanks for your thought.
I thought verbatim media was the best, hence have no problem.
When I put my old DVD Rom back in, it reads the DVD's. Plus the DVD writer also reads my home made DVD's.
Having read some web sites today it seems LG DVD ROM's have a bit of a problem.
I think I'll be returning this ROM back to where it came.

There is one thing you could try before returning it if you wish. There could be a firmware upgrade for the player on the LG website that may solve your problem.
