Hi Poweless, I posted this message on the end of my original question but inadvertantly pressed the resolved button. I am posting it as a new question

DVD ROM Fault almost resolved
Hi Poweless, Thanks for your promt reply. I visited the Microsoft Knowledge Base and followed the instructions for locating the fault, i.e. ***STOP: 0x00000076 etc and got a response :-

***STOP: 0x000000CB (0XEB63435C, 0XEB6347EE7, 0X810EE9E8, 0X81198A74) DRIVER_LEFT_LOCKED_PAGES_IN_PROCESS
***ADDRESS EB63435C base at EB630000, DateStamp 377d563a - mpegport.SYS
***ADDRESS EB634EE7 base at EB630000, DateStamp 377d563a - mpegport.SYS
I am unable to identify where this driver is let alone delete it. Can you help or would it be too risky for me to attempt, I can follow most instructions

I have not got a clue as to what particuliar driver that mpegport.SYS would be associated to.

I think this has something to do with either,
a dvd decoder card such as realmagic or grabbing broadband video. I dont know if you are using a hardware dvd decoder, such as the creative labs one, or have special software installed for broadband video on demand. I had the creative labs decoder but took it out when I upgraded to XP cause the drivers didnt work properly.

I know it seems heavy handed bit a format restore will more than likely put things right
