Hi i have a Sony dvd recorder with a hard drive, but when i copy anything from the hard drive onto a blank dvd it will not play on another dvd player on even my computer or laptop, it will only play on the dvd player that copied it, the discs i am using are TDK DVD-R, if i was to use discs with a + symbol would this make any difference?

Depends on the format of the files you are copying, if avi you need to convert to dvd or at least to a video cd. although most recent dvd players will now play mpeg 4.

Have you finalized the disk.

Reading one of the instuction manuals from the Sony site it states that the disk requires finalizing befor you can use the disk in another DVD player.

If you are using XP burner that may be why. Plus discs have to finalised to be read on another drive

As others have said you must finalise the disk to allow other players to read it.

You will find a finalise disk option in your DVD Recorder Menu.
