The best recorder is one that does both +/- The real battle comes discovering WHAT brand of Media the recorder likes, then finding a home player that is happy with the DVD's the pc produces.I bought a Pioneer 106 recorder, and a Dansai player.I always buy DataWrite "yellow" blanks,as I have never had trouble with them, yet a mate has "MIRROR" brand blanks which willnot record here,or even play in any of my DVD players(my daughters pc has DVD-ROM)

The Pioneer 106D is very good, one of the best for compatability with different brands of media.

Look out for Disks with GO4 dye on them [purple]
Mirror Platinum x4 are ok with this writer but then depends on your dvd player whether it plays them or not.

You can buy packs from online merchants to test which work for you
