DVD players as per helpline Spring 2003 issue.

I've just bought a 2nd hand DVD drive. Having previously read the titl article I thought I'd be OK for software.

I couldn't find the player that's reputedly in 98SE although it talks about it in help.

I downloaded Videolan - the pictures were there, fine, but the sound was broken so much it was unintelligable. I downloaded the latest driver for my soundcard but it didn't make any difference.

I then tried Maximus from the cover disc. It refused to do anything with the one DVD I possess, which is a freebie from the Times, saying this disc doesn't have an index therefore I'm not going to play it. It doesn't inspire confidence.

Surely I'm not going to have to buy some software!!!

Anybody got any advice????????????
