I am looking to purchase a DVD Burner for my PC to back up all my files with, and am not sure whether to go for a DVD+ burner or a DVD- burner.

Which format would be better to go with to save updating in 12 months?

A multi dvd drive + and - is your best option and they are a reasonable price now.

Yup, go for a multi-drive, Poloman69.

It depends on whether you want to share files with someone else. if you do then find out what they use and buy the same, if not buy the best you can afford.

If your prime purpose is backing up, it would be far better and cheaper to install another hard drive.

Go for a dual drive. The one I have is an NEC1300A and I have never burned a coaster.

The drive is £89.99 from click here

DVD+ is super fast for backing up data but is not particularly well supported by DVD players (stand-alones).

DVD- is slower at writing your data files but is supported by most DVD players.

Each format has advantages and disadvantages - I bought both VHS & Betamax separately because the two were not available in one machine.

I now use the ND1300A dual format - seems the only sensible way
