Hi, I have a dell dimension 2400 with a cd-rw and dvd-rom I want to install a dvd-rw can I just take the cd-rw out and connect the dvd-rw the same way or is there more to it? I've been told it's best to keep the dvd-rom instead of the cd-rw because you can play games with the dvd-rom and dvd-rw can write cd's

Simply unplug the cables from your cd-rw and plug them into your dvd-rw thew same way

However you will need to check the jumper setting on the back of your dvd-rom, if it is set to Master (which it probably is) then your dvd-rw should be set to slave. If the dvd-rom is set to cable select (CS) then your dvd-rw should be on the same setting.

Definitely you shoulds keep the dvd-rom and replace the cd-rw

Take a look at what is in the machine at the moment; some Dell components are not the same as standard ones you get in the shops.
