DVD Format

I've bought a nice NEC multi DVD write/rewrite unit and I've so far loaded a couple of CD's and burned a few Cd's. What I want to do is burn a DVD from the camcorder recordings when I've edited them. The question is - which format do I use , +DVD, -DVD etc. The home DVD player is multi region but it does not say if it's + or -. Will any format replay on the home machine?

Any web links available for this info?

Any help appreciated before I start to waste expensive blank DVD disks.

Thanks

Thanks for the advice. The link gives a lot of information but too much too read all at once. Once again - thanks
