Can`t seem to remember what causes this so perhaps someone can remind me. Sony Vaio Laptop and when I press the button on the DVD drawer it won`t open. I have to right click the drive in Windows Explorer and then the eject option. Any pointers?

What software are you using that uses the drive?

software such as nero / roxio etc. locks the drives

That rings a bell! The laptop has Roxio installed - DigitalMedia SE.

make sure is not autostarting on boot run msconfig - startup tab and untick.

I`ve disabled the Sonic (Roxio) at start up but still no joy. Any other suggestion? Could it be something to do with disc finalisation in the options? I think it`s currently set to allow additional burning of files.

goto my computer and select eject.

last resort push a end of a paper clip into the small hole by the drawer to release.

sunnystaines - that`s what I`m doing to eject the disks. Trying to find out why I can`t eject manually!

ink I`ve sussed it. The button on the drawer seems to work if I push it twice and very firmly. This is either a design feature to prevent accidental opening of the drawer or the catch is slightly misaligned. Either way it seems to work now.
