Have a 2001 PC with CD writer (E: drive)and also DVD reader (D: drive).

The DVD drive has packed up and I wondered how easy it is to swap it for a DVD writer (I want to keep the CD writer)?

Is it just a case of take the old DVD drive out and replace it with new?

Are cable connections the same?

Will it work immediately or do I have to do anything to the op system?

Should just swap, you need to make sure the jumper on the new drive is set the same as the original DVD drive.

As Ho-Lin-Sok has said just swap them over all the connections are the same and on the back of the drive there are 4 sets of 2 pins :::: with a jumper connection 2 of them just make sure the DVD writer that you are installing is the same postion as the DVD rom that you are taking out.
