DVD drive not working after burning DVD

I have a new laptop with a DVD +/- drive which I have successfully played cds and dvds on.

I recently used Sonic software to burn a direct copy of a DVD which worked fine. This was the first time I had attempted this. Now when I put a dvd or cd in the drive it is not recognised and in looking in windows explorer it tells me to insert a disc when there is one in there.

I don't know what the burning of the dvd did to the drive but does anyone have any ideas as to how to get it working again??

"new laptop" - don't mess about with it - take it back to the shop.
