DVD Drive not seeing disc

I run Windows XP Home SP2. My tower has a CD reader writer drive and a separate DVD reader (not writer).

The CD reader/writer is working OK

Yesterday I tried putting the new cover DVD from PCA into the DVD drive, but I keep getting the message "insert disc". Tried putting in an ordinary DVD film and again get the message "insert disc".

When I click on My computer>DVD drive it doesnt display any contents of the disc.

Been into Device Manager and uninstalled drivers then rebooted. XP found the DVD drive and I assume it reinstalled the drivers.

Device Manager says DVD is working OK, but it aint.

Any suggestions please.

Many thanks thms. Only problem is that the computer in question is not on line at the moment. Will try your link when I am. (Probably after Christmas).

download copy to pen drive or CD and transfer to other PC.

TO be honest its probably the laser or alignment failed in the DVD drive.

At less than £20 for a new DVD RW it aint worth fixing.

thanks fruit bat. Think I shall have a look for a new drive.

Just thought I would let you know that I downloaded the fix and ran it on the other computer. Regrettably it did not work.

Looks like a new drive needed.
