DVD Drive not always seen by windows

  Strawballs 09:48 15 Apr 08

I fitted a DVD writer in my sons machine replaceing the DVD rom that was there.

The problem is that windows (XP) does not always see it it has to be restarted on the reset button before it will work, the strange thing is that the bios always shows it as being there.

All I did was a straight swap for the rom making sure that the jumper was set to the same as the outgoing drive.

Uninstall in device manager reboot the machine and let windows find and reinstall the drive.

Sorry mate tried that but I had to restart on the reset button twice before the new hardware wizard kicked in and reinstalled it.
