DVD capacity after back-up

I have just used Cyberpower Back-up software and backed-up 687MB of photos on a 4.7GB DVD.
When viewing the DVD it shows full, which I find strange - have I got my Megabytes mixed up with my Gigabytes! ............?

What it probably means is that the disk is finalised and no more can be written to it.

Thanks - it must be the answer, but I thought finalising referred to Dvd authoring for DVD playable discs.
If your suggestion is the correct one, then it would be better for me just to COPY my images etc., rather than to back them up.That way, I can save many more MBs of files!
Once again, thanks for your prompt reply. I think Forum guys respond so much faster with good advice than the suppliers of software!
