DVD burning problem

My dvd burner has decided not to burn dvd's, it is a LG GSA-4040B DVD+ - R/RW/RAM. It will burn CD's no problem but when I try to burn a DVD, Pinnacle shows it writing the disk and finalising but when trying to play it to check I get nothing. DVD option selected in Pinnacle before writing to the disk.
Any help would be appreciated.

Did you do a disk format before burning? this helps sometimes and worth a try...

Have you tried a different burning program? If yes and still no joy, possible laser fault,as optical drives have two lasers, one for cd the other dvd.

I didn't but will give that a try.

Maybe someone can give you a link to some free dvd burning software.

Have just looked at the disks that I've tried to burn, all look as it they have had the files burnt to them but neither the DVD-ROM nor the DVD writer will play them. I think I may have to go out and buy Nero.

If you just want dvd's that can be played back on your pc, you can burn avi's and mpg's to dvd with DivX player and play back via same, it's very quick and easy.

Thanks I will try that, I have DixX player.
