Hi,

I'm fixing a computer at the moment that has a problem with the dvd burner. It isn't recognised for a start on the system and in device manager it has one of those yellow exclamation marks next to it with the message:

Windows cannot start this hardware device because it's configuration (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged.

The burner is a NEC DVD-RW ND2510A. Windows XP home edition.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Have you tried removing and refitting te ide lead at the dvd and on the motherboard.
Is it recognised in the bios?

What do you mean reinstall the ide channel?

How do you do this?

control panel - system - hardware -device manager - click on the plus sign next to IDE /atapi controllers - your drive will probably be on the secondary controller - right click secondary contoller and select uninstall.

Action menu - scan for hardware changes will refind the device and reinstall it.

Hopefully properly this time

ok tried the last thing you said Fruit Bat but again it said there was a problem installing the hardware and it gave a yellow excalmation mark again.
