DVD Blank recognition problems

I was burning a DVD no problems on +R a friend came round with a -R allready written on. I played this disc through my rewriter no problem, went back to backing up my data to +R DVDs and my drive now will not recognise a blank DVD states it as 0 bytes free and 0 bytes data, It still plays DVDs and recognises blank cds and burns cds but not dvds.
Is there anything I can do or is the drive faulty.

try deleting the drive in device manager then reboot, sometime the drive gets locked by windows or the driver gets corrupted...
