"duplicate name on the network"

I have a laptop (Acer 3010 ; OS is XP) that shares a broadband wirelessly with my desktop PC (Vista) and before that with an Me desktop.
Boot-up on the laptop is delayed briefly by a “System error” message that says, “ A duplicate name exists on the network”. This has happened for a long time - perhaps began when I got the Vista machine a couple of years ago. I simply close the error message window. How can I cure this problem/stop the message appearing?

Look up the computer name on each of your computers and if two are the same, change one of them.

Find computer name under Me:

Right-Click on the "Network Neighborhood" Icon which is on your Windows Desktop; then select properties.
Select the "Identification" tab and use the "Computer name" field.
