Dual core question

I am thinking of buying a PC which has the following processor in it Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor 950 Dual Core Processor (3.40GHz, 800MHz, 2x2MB cache)and also I have seen another which has a Intel Pentium 4 3.8ghz processor.

The question I have is, will the dual core processor run at 6.80 ghz (3.40 x 2=6.80 ghz). I mainly use my PC for dvd work which can be a time consuming process, but I would like faster overall performance as well, . Which would be better between the two processors I have listed. I am not really limited on budget

No the dual core processors would run at there stock speed 3.4ghz but you have 2. The advantage of this is that one of the cores can be working on say encoding a dvd and the other could be dealing with system tasks.

I would say that you would be better off with a dual core chip.
