I know this might sound like a noobie question . But if i was to buy a game that requires a pentium 4 - 3 GHZ cpu will a 2.4 GHZ E6600 cpu be enough?. What i am trying to ask is the do the 2 independent cpu's on the chip combine to give 4.8 GHZ?

ghz doesnt play the same equation
check this link
you can compare a dual core or core 2 duo against p4 and select benchmark test, theres games in amongst the benchmarks to give you an idea

You can't just double the speed to give a single core equivalent.

However, to answer your question, yes, an E6600 will knock spots off a P4 3.0 ghz, so it would handle the game with ease.

Raven's link to the Tom's Hardware cpu charts is really the best way to see how pcu's compare now, but that's not much help when you're in the shop considering buying a game, and your dual core processor isn't mentioned in the specs.
