Dual Boot Win98/WinXP

I have the same set up and problem as referred to on page181 of PC Advisor issue 118 May 2005. Unfortunately when I select 'check all boot paths' I receive the message 'Boot.ini does not refer to a valid O.S.' Highlighting the path to WinXP pro and asking if I wish to remove it. This I did not dare do. Fortunately I had saved the WINDOWS folder from Win98 to an external drive so I reinstalled it and was able to boot up OK. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can remove Win98 and have WinXP as my only O.S. and on Drive C:

Explore the folder that contains Windows 98, searching for all personal files or documents; move them to a safe place. Then just delete the entire folder that contains Windows 98. You may need to confirm that it's okay to delete read-only files, executable files, and so on.

Select Run from the Start menu and enter MSCONFIG. Click on the tab entitled BOOT.INI, and click on the button that says Check All Boot Paths. Your system will report that the path used to launch Windows 98 is not valid and offer to remove it. Click on Yes. From now on, your system will boot directly to Windows XP.
