Dual boot editing XP

I have installed Win98SE as slave on one hard drive and XP Pro as master on a new hard drive, but I cannot dual boot, I only get XP and am not offered the option of either one or other OS. In control panel/system/startup settings only XP is listed as an OS.
Is it wise to try editing the startup options file to add Win98?
It now reads:
boot loader
timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\Windows
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)Windows="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
Should I change the existing default=WinXP values to indicate a second hard drive and add a line for Win98?
Could anyone out there advise on what these values should be? Please?
