Dskchk on start

Hi,

My son's computer now carries out a disk check each time it starts, although I have run defrag, registry cleaning, disk clean-up, antivirus and spyware checks. Is there anything I can do to stop this happening each time it starts?

The computer is a Dell 4550, XP Home, 30gb HDD with 256mb memory (I have advised him to get more memory & a bigger HDD).

Thanks,

Jim

Hi,

Have a look in in scheduled tasks in your control panel,

Is it listed in there?

Also try a system restore to a point before the problem

It sounds like the dirty bit is set on the drive, which will call an autocheck each time the computer boots. To cure it do this click here

I meant to say, follow the instructions in Curio's post.

Check Disk Prevent Upon Boot (Line 294) click here
Disable Autochk click here

Thanks all for the responses, followed the link from MAJ to Curio and that seems to have cured it.
