Dropped dial-up connection

  Charlie Babbage 09:02 24 Aug 06

My friend has a dial-up connection to Tesco.net. It connects to the server ok but then after a short time, about 2-3 miuntes, the connection is dropped.

There is no problem with voice calls on the landline. Tesco say there is no problem their end. I suppose it is possible that the modem is faulty although this seems unlikely as it does connect ok.

Any other ideas as to what might be causing this problem would be appreciated. The o/s is Windows XP Professional.

Try running the AV and these

Spybot/Ewido/Adaware click here

This may be a virus or Spyware/Malware.Once you have ran these and if the problem persists...post back.

Just realised what ive said earlier...hopfully your friend can stay online longer enough to download these apps.

If not maybe you could download them to disc or a Flash drive and load them that way.

Go to Start>Settings>Control Panel>Internet Options>Connections tab (or from IE's Tools>Internet Options>Connections tab), highlight the Tesco line>Settings>Properties>Advanced button.

Ensure that Disconnect After and Disconnect If boxes are both Unchecked.
