driver zip file

I have downloaded the latest driver for my graphics card and it is in a zip folder.
I uninstalled display drivers add/remove programmes, but I did not know what to do next as I had only used an exe folder that did everything auto. I was stuck with a grey screen and had to install the driver that came on the asus disc that came with the card.
I would like to know what I did wrong.

You need a zip/unzip utility like click here (free for evaluation, remember to pay the shareware fee if you use it a lot).
