Drive randomly claims it is full?

I have a Seagate 7200.9 160gb Hard Drive.

It has about 15gb free.

However lately it has been randomly deciding that it is full (e.g. 0 free, 16kb/mb free) giving me lots of errors and disc cleanup options. If I go into Disk Defrag the space that was originally free is all red and when I degragment nothing happens as it finishes instantly.

Normally the problem sorts itself for no reason I can see obvious (a restart also sorts the problem).

HD Tune and other such utitiles show my hard drive is healthy.

Any ideas why it does this?

TicTacToc,

most hard drives start to slow from about 60% full.
Your is over 90% full, and as files are strewn all over a hard drive, your system is struggling to find free space.

I would suggest backing up a lot of media files etc from your drive, and then delete them, followed by a scandisk and a full defrag.
