drive formatting

I have just fitted an extra hard drive to my pc, unfortunately it is not formatted. can anyone "talk me through" what i need to do to be make this extra space usable. I am running xp pro

Go to the drive makers website and download the disc manager.

What op system are you using?

Is the drive recognised in BIOS? and windows?

control panel--admin tools--computer management--disk management--

The disk should show up as unallocated space,
click on disk, you should then have options to format it.
