drive d

i put a cd-r into drive to copy music,my niece accidently hit the big power button on the tower of the pc while it was copying to the cd-r.
the pc shut it self down,when i restarted the pc,the cd drawer will not open and drive d is missing.
please advise.

Are you on Win 98?

Go into the device manager (by right clicking on "my computer" and choosing properties) and see if it is there. If it is, choose to remove it and reboot. Windows should pick up on it.

If not, reboot and enter the BIOS (press del to enter setup) and see if it is recognised there.
