Drag and drop issue

  slypen 19:56 03 Nov 08

Hello and firstly let me say what a nice site you have here.
The problem that I would appreciate some help with is this,
When ever I have something on the screen that I want to move.
I left click it, hold it, then drag and drop it to it's new position, well all that happens is The frame of said subject moves, and the rest of it play's catch up after I release the frame. It does'nt all move together like it is supposed to do.
Thanking you in advance for any help.

Once you have released it,in its new location how long does it take, should be a milli second.

Sound like your screen icons are locked. Have a look in right click on task bar at the bottom, then properties take a look in there. Also check right click on empty Desktop check items there

Firstly thankyou for your prompt replies.

@ tullie you are correct.

@ woodchip I have followed your instructions but can't find anything to do with icons.

Any more advice would be appreciated.

@ Technotiger thanks for the reply but,

TweakWindow supports the following operating systems:

Windows 2000

Windows XP

Windows 2003

It does'nt say anything about vista ?

Or am I missing something in the article.

I think it would have helped enormously if you'd told us you had Vista.
We do our best with the facts presented.

If it only takes a milli second, which is normal, whats the concern?

  woodchip 23:42 03 Nov 08

You could turn off MS look goods, right click on My computer, this is for XP but may be the same on Vista Click properties then on performance tab remove all the extras like shadows etc. You will find the Windows will work a lot faster

Look in Display Properties - Appearance - click the Effects button.

Is there a tick in the "Show windows contents whilst dragging"?

If not, then what you are seeing is correct. If you put a tick in the box, you should see the window move when you drag.

If your system and/or graphics is a little lacking in "oomph" then the window may judder as it moves.

Note - the above is for XP - I should imagine the settings are in a similar place for Vista.
