Downloading video to Windows Live

I want to download from my digital video camera, but when I try to do it to Microsoft Live Photo Gallery, I am told that my camera is being used by another application and that I need to shut it down. No other application is connected to the camera so I am stuck! Any ideas please?
My camera is a Panasonic NV-DS8 and I am using Windows 7 64 bit and a firewire connection

When you connect your camera to the PC download and save the video to a file. Unconnect the camera from the PC. Open the 'Ms Live Photo Gallery' and try loading the vid from the file.

As the connection to the computer is by firewire, it doesn't show a drive on explorer so I cannot download it.
