Downloading video footage from Camcorder to PC

Not done this before. Got a Sanyo VDM66P Digital camcorder. What cables, adaptors, software do I need and in layman's terms what do I do, ie, what do I plug into where and what do I press, etc.
I want to download from the camcorder to my PC and then burn as a VideoCD to view on the DVD player. I know that WinOnCD can burn as a VCD.
Also how much space should I allow on my HDD for a full 8mm video cassette.

You will need a firewire card on your PC , and the cable that comes with it , connects to it and your Camcorder . I only started 2 weeks ago , but using Ulead Videostudio6 to Capture from camcorder and make VCD and SVCD are very easy , and play back on DVD player with Menus etc . 1 hour of of your footage can take up 14 GB of hard Disk and a long time to render and then burn to CD . Good Luck will help if i can :) .
