A friend has been given a camcorder which uses a firewire port to download onto his computer. He does not have a firewire port - is there any way round this problem?

buy a firewire card. cheap enough at less than a tenner from some suppliers

Great - are they difficult to fit - he is a novice but will give it a go.

Not especially but precautions regarding anti static are required.

Many thanks - have looked at this article and as I know he has Windows XP and it looks as though it should not be too difficult - although he has never done anything of this nature before.

He can use Movie Maker on XP to download from USB

  Eileanbeag 00:56 21 Dec 05

Will that work until he has installed Firewire?

Only if the camera has a USB port and the pc has a USB 2.0 port.
