Downloaded MP3 music doesn't work on MP3 player

Downloaded MP3 (legal) music from the internet doesn't work on MP3 player. A "file error" message appears. The music plays on Media Player and plays from the MP3 player via Media Player too. I've tried downloading straight to MP3 with still no joy. Totally useless really! Any ideas please. Thanks.

What does the error say?

I have heard that some sites restrict the MP3 download to the PC it was downloaded onto. I'm not saying that is the problem but its the thing that I thought of first. Perhaps if you provide a link to your legal download site someone can advise further and perhaps give you an idea of other sites you can use.

Message says "file error". I think it is something to do with copy protection on WMA files. It stops you sharing them once downloaded. The sites are MSN Music and Wippet.
