Is this possible?

I read somewhere that once you have Win 2000 on a pc it cant be downgraded.

Is this true?

Thanks.

if you upgraded 98 to 2000 (not a vlean install) then you should see windows 2000 in add/remove programs, if you uninstall windows 2000 from here it revert bck to 98

However, if during the upgrade process you converted your file system from FAT32 to NTFS then reverting back 98 will not be possible

I'm pretty sure it can't be done. But why don't you dual boot with 98. I assume you want 98 for gaming.

First you need to clear the Drive. Use click here Then you need to Create new Partitions using Fdisk on the Win98se floppy tenth file down click here Then you shut the computer off, NOT REBOOT And start with Floppy at A:\> Type

Format C:

After that you have to restart with floppy choose Start with CD-Rom support it will load a RAM Drive, and will take your CD drive letter, whatever the letter of your CD drive it will move down one letter as if it was D:\ it becomes E:\ so type the new drive letter only like this E: when it changes type Setup With the Win98se CD in Drive and follow on screen prompts. If you need help with FDISK come back

PS 98 as to go on first

Thanks Thalmus.

Looks like i cant do it though.

3. Install Win 9X first. If you install it after installing Win 2K it will overwrite the C:\BOOT.INI file you will not be able to dual-boot.

"once you have Win 2000 on a pc it cant be downgraded."
This applies to any version of Windows, unless you are reverting back before a recent update.

98 will insist on being installed on drive C: With your present setup, it looks like you have to consider along woodchip's route.....
Total reinstallation of 98SE, and then 2000, but only AFTER using FDISK to create a new partition to take 2K, once Win98 is up and running.
