Downgrade Windows 7 to Windows XP

  cholseyboy 12:53 30 Nov 09

Have just bought new PC with Windows 7 64 bit.
Now my old programs will not install.
Windows XP to Windows 7 is easy, but it won't work the other way round.
Virtual drive works partially but CD/DVD and USB drives not recognised !
Need either new install or Dual O/S system

Windows 7 has a compatibility mode that works in the same way as it did on XP and Vista

To use it right click on the programs installer and choose Properties then click on the Compatibility tab put a tick in "Run this program in compatibility mode for" then select one of the XP options from the dropdown list

it may not always provide the solution but I have used it successfully on a number of occasions on both Vista and 7

Cheers HC

In addition it sometimes helps to set the Compatibilty as TOSH says but run the program as Administrator (from the same drop down menu as Compatibility).
