DOT4 Printer Port

Recently installed HP2300dtn laser printer (connected to the LPT port) and had one or two sharing problems. Mostly cured now, but every now and then it prints gobbledygook or a machine that shares it loses it connection. I noticed after installation that the printer shows in device Manager as being connected to a DOT4 port, and this was also the case in the printers properties. I changed it to lpt1 as recommended click here;en-us;q302361 but am still having the odd problem. It seems that dot4 is for multifunctional devices using Windows Server 2003 (we have win2k server) so have no idea how it became set up this way.

So, should I uninstall the printer and delete the port from DM, reinstall and hope its better next time. Its not an MF device obviously and should not have been recognised as one.

Grateful for any advice.
