does rdram have to be matched pairs

can anyone tell me if i can have a 256mb memory module next to a 512mb on an asus p4t533 with 232 pin rimm 4200 rdram or do they have to be paired 2x256mb or 2x512mb

When I upgraded my DRam from 256 to 512 I had to buy two 256's in a pair(rather than add to the pair I had). However, I think I was able to leave 128 in as well so I had 2x 256 and a 1x 128.
The best suggestion for you is to fill in your system details at:-

Not only will you get good memory at an excellent price but they will guarantee it is right for your system so you cannot go wrong!

Rambus memory must be in matched pairs. As does the registered memory in Athlon 64 FX boards.

Normal SD-Ram, be is DDR or regular SD-Ram does not normally have to be in matched pairs.
