Hi,

Just wondered if CD/DVD drives vary in sound quality depending on make/model/build,component quality when it comes to ripping a CD?

Cheers.

CD ripping is not done by the drive - the original audio is read from the drive - a program converts the format to whatever (MP3, WMA, Vob Orbis, etc).

The quality of the derived file depends on how good the ripping software is, what bit rate you choose, and what format you convert too (basically).

About the only thing that doesn't have much effect is the source drive. And if you write the derived data file to a CD - that has no effect at all on the quality, which at that point is fixed in concrete (as it were).
