docking a HD for transport

hi guys
someone told me you should dock your harddrive before moving you desktop pc.
can someone please tell me how to do this & also how to undock it afterwards.
i am using windows xp

There is nothing you can do to a modern hard drive for transport, except remove it from the case and pack it properly in a foam insert of a proper drive shipment box.

Many, many years ago (prolly 20 or so if my memory serves) - it was possible to Park hard drive heads for transport. Since then they have all been auto-parking.

i think that must be what he meant but my harddrive is only about 18 months old so it should autopark
